It is caused by a mutation in the gene called LMNA, which produces protein. Children with Progeria are born looking healthy and start showing signs at 18 months. Symptoms include stunted growth, hair loss, weight loss, wrinkled skin, stiff joints, and heart disease. Sufferers commonly die of heart disease at an average age of 13 years old.
