Nigerians Paid Kim Kardashian $500,000

There are reports going around in Nigeria that Kim Kardashian was paid $500,000, an equivalent of TShs 800 million, or KShs 44 million to host a Valentine’s day event called “Love Like a Movie.” And she was at the aforementioned event for how long? A whole of 45 minutes!

Some Nigerians are shocked that an African country that has so many poors, whose an entire lifetime earning isn’t anywhere near that, has “ballers” who would choose to pay Kim K that amount of money to host a party.

Independent Nigerian TV station Channels Television reported: ‘There were disappointments after Kim Kardashian came on stage for only 40 seconds.’
A blogger with the Guardian, Jeremy Weate described Kardashian’s visit as ‘blowing its money on bling puffery while most of the country suffers’. ‘Ms Kardashian appeared, said, “Hey Naija” and vamoosed!’ He added, referring to Kim’s brief stay.Nigerian media were not impressed at all. Eddy Odivwri, a writer for This Day newspaper wrote: ‘Many families are not exactly comfortable with her lifestyle, as she hardly cuts the image of a role model to a generation in need of a moral dress up.’

Nigeria are not the only one who are bewildered about this. One of Ghana’s entertainment sites, GhanaCelebrities.com, asked: ‘My questions is; what is wrong with us Africans? When did Kim Kardashian become so good at hosting that she has to be paid thousands of dollars and be brought to Nigeria to handle a concert?’
